Encounters with Employers and Employees
Students should have encounters with a range of different employers across their time within education; as a minimum they should be having at least one encounter a year.
These encounters should help provide them with an understanding of the range of roles and responsibilities within a number of industries and prepare them for the world of work.
What does good look like?
- Students should have multiple opportunities to meet and interact with a number of employers. These encounters should provide them with the opportunity to ask questions to develop their understanding in areas such as what they need to do progress down that career path and what employers value in the workplace.
- Encounters with employers should be delivered through their curriculum area where possible to supplement their learning and to help them apply their learnt knowledge.
- Encounters should be aligned with the strategic economic plan of the region, to highlight to students the skills gaps & growth areas in their local labour market.
- Encounters with employers should highlight to students a range of routes they can undertake to get to their chosen career path.
- Encounters with employers should be delivered in the employers’ workplace, where possible to help prepare students for the workplace and further their understanding of the world of work.
