Benchmark 4
Linking Curriculum to Careers
Careers needs to be strategically embedded into the curriculum so that students are aware of how their learning is applicable to a range of careers.
Study programmes should also reflect the value that employers place on English & Maths and highlight how many of the skills they will learn in the classroom are transferable.
What does good look like?
- By the end of Key Stage 4 students should have experienced curriculum learning that highlights the relevance of their subjects to future careers paths. Students should understand how their subjects choices can support them to gain entry and be more effective across a wide range of roles and industries.
- Where possible ensure learning is applied and use real world examples to support this.
- Supplement learning in the classroom by building curriculum and careers in to visits to local employers or by using guest speakers.
- Use display areas around the school/college and within the classroom to highlight the variety of careers that link to the subject.
- Have a dedicated careers in the curriculum section on your website.
