Benchmark 6
Experiences of Workplaces
Students should be given the opportunity to experience employer workplaces to help prepare them for the world of work and further their understanding of the modern workplace.
What does good look like?
- By the age of 16 (End of Key Stage 4) students should have had at least one experience of a workplace. This is in addition to any part time/ voluntary work they are completing outside of school.
- If continuing within education, students should have experienced an additional work place by the time they are 18 (End of Key Stage 5)
- Work Experience programmes are a great way for students to experience the workplace and it is highly recommended that students experience this in some form before the age of 16 (End of Key Stage 4)
- Take students out of the classroom to experience the workplace; this can include site visits & trips and ensure they speak to a variety of people within that business.
- Build careers in to any school trips; ensure students can ask questions to employees about their career journeys and their roles and responsibilities.
