Benchmark 1
A Stable Careers Programme
Every School & College should have an embedded careers programme that contains operational and strategic elements to ensure that students are given the opportunity to develop their careers education.
The programme should also contain elements that provides information, advice & guidance to parents/carers, teachers, governor & employers.
What does good look like?
- A stable & structured careers programme that contains operational & strategic elements that has been explicitly backed and signed off by the senior leadership team.
- There should be an individual within the school/college who has the lead responsibility for overseeing the strategic responsibility of the programme.
- A dedicated section on the school/colleges website where the programme can be published which allows students, parents, staff & employers to access and understand it.
- The programme should be regularly evaluated to ensure that the programme continues to provide the best quality careers education & should ensure that feedback is received from students, parents/carers, staff & employers as part of the process.
- External providers who offer a variety of academic and technical further & higher education should be given the opportunity to engage with students to ensure they fully understand all of the routes that are available to them. This is in line with Careers Guidance & Access for Training Providers (2021)
