Addressing the Needs of Each Pupil
Every student is on their own unique career journey; information, advice and guidance needs to support them in finding their next best steps.
The careers programme needs to meet the needs of individual students and provide tailored guidance at different stages of their own personal development. The programme should challenge stereotypical thinking, promote equality & diversity, and raise aspirations.
What does good look like?
- The careers programme should challenge a range of stereotypes and look to raise aspirations for each student.
- The carers programme should provide students with a range of encounters across a variety of industries to allow students to progress and discover their own unique careers journey.
- Systematic records for each student should be kept which includes the information, advice & guidance they have received, alongside any proposed action plans.
- Students should be able to have access these records to support them with their career development.
- Records should be integrated where possible with any previous records from a students previous education. Records need to be kept from point of transition or first contact, whichever comes first.
- Accurate data should be kept by schools for each student regarding their education, training or employment destinations for at least 3 years after they leave school/ end of key stage 4, whichever comes first. This data should be used as part of the careers programme evaluation to inform its development and suitability and address any gaps in provision. For Colleges, data should be kept for the destination for at least the year after they leave.
